Georgia Office of the Insurance Commissioner

The Consumer Services Division investigates policyholder complaints and responds to inquiries from the public.  The office helps to fairly resolve disputes that pertain to transactions between insurers, agents, and policyholders.

Applying for Medicaid in Georgia

Medicaid is a program that provides health care services to individuals who meet the requirements for income, resources, and citizenship.  Individuals may apply at any local office of the Georgia DHR Dept. of Family and Children Services (DFCS).

Quality & Resident Rights in Long-Term Care

The Georgia Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman seeks to improve the quality of life for resident of long-term care facilities (nursing homes, intermediate care facilities for individuals with mental retardation, personal care homes, and community living arrangements).  The State Office certifies and trains community ombudsmen who work to resolve concerns of long-term care facility residents statewide.  Ombudsmen emphasize residents’ wishes in assisting to resolve problems.

Legal Assistance for Older Adults

The Georgia Elderly Legal Assistance Program (ELAP) provides persons age 60+ with legal representation, information, and education in civil matters.  It is funded by the federal Older Americans Act.  Program services include document preparation, legal counseling, case representation, and legal education sessions to help older Georgians avoid more costly, time-consuming legal problems.  The Georgia DHR Division of Aging Services administers this program through Area Agencies on Aging.
